Chers membres,

Les prochains mois seront chargés de défis, surtout avec le début du second mandat du gouvernement Legault. Il sera donc intéressant de constater très tôt en début d’année quelles seront ses orientations pour les aînés. Le prochain budget sera décisif pour la suite des choses.

Nous continuerons de nous mobiliser et de vous tenir informés de l’avancement de tous nos dossiers, que ce soit en matière de revenu, de santé, de logement ou de transport. Nous vous encourageons également à poursuivre votre mobilisation et de poursuivre sur la bonne lancée de 2022.

Annonce de notre nouvelle directrice générale

Nous sommes heureux de vous présenter notre nouvelle directrice générale, Claire Lapointe. Claire possède une solide expérience dans le milieu communautaire et a passé les dernières années à travailler sur un projet dédié aux aînés, ce qui est cohérent avec son arrivée à l’AQDR.

Claire a été membre d’une coopérative de travail en technologies de l’information, gestionnaire en immobilier dans le monde de l’habitation communautaire et directrice du Comité d’action des citoyennes et citoyens de Verdun, un organisme de défense de droits des locataires. Elle connaît les rouages de la bonne gouvernance d’un organisme. C’est une passionnée de la gestion des ressources humaines et de la défense des droits de la personne. Dotée d’une vaste expérience, sa polyvalence sera un atout pour l’AQDR.

Nous tenons aussi à remercier et à faire part de notre gratitude envers Jean Grenier, qui a tenu le fort et assumé les responsabilités de la direction générale depuis le départ à la retraite de Serge Séguin. Le travail de Jean a été essentiel pour assurer une continuité et permettre à Claire d’entrer en poster en bénéficiant d’un accompagnement solide et rassurant.

Maltraitance : être vigilants et dénoncer, plus que jamais

Récemment, nous avons pris connaissance d’une enquête choquante de La Presse concernant la hausse de la maltraitance chez les aînés, et ce, dans la majorité des régions du Québec. C’est une situation inacceptable que notre président, Pierre Lynch, a pu commenter dans l’article en question.

Nous invitons donc toutes les sections et tous nos membres à redoubler de vigilance face à ces situations. Nous savons que les processus de dénonciation sont complexes et allons continuer à plaider pour que le gouvernement agisse beaucoup plus fermement en la matière.

Un message de la SAAQ

Vous aviez été nombreux à nous écrire pour signaler votre inquiétude face aux récents changements de la SAAQ en matière de suspension de permis de conduire. Suite à nos questionnements, la SAAQ nous a fait parvenir le message suivant s’adressant à vous :

La Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) a apporté des ajustements dans le traitement des dossiers de la clientèle ayant reçu un diagnostic de trouble neurocognitif. Faisons le point.

Les troubles neurocognitifs touchent des milliers de Québécoises et de Québécois de tout âge. Malheureusement, le développement d’un trouble de cette nature peut avoir des incidences importantes, notamment sur la conduite sécuritaire d’un véhicule automobile.

Les limitations fonctionnelles découlant d’un problème médical importent lorsqu’il s’agit de déterminer la capacité de conduire. Ainsi, le diagnostic d’un trouble neurocognitif n’entraîne pas la suspension systématique du permis de conduire. Pour favoriser la sécurité de l’ensemble des usagers de la route, le permis de conduire sera suspendu par la SAAQ, dans certains cas, suivant la recommandation d’un médecin, jusqu’à ce qu’une évaluatrice ou un évaluateur de la SAAQ apprécie les compétences de conduite de la personne concernée ou jusqu’à ce qu’un ergothérapeute procède à une évaluation fonctionnelle.

Il est nécessaire que nous contribuions collectivement à faire en sorte que nos routes demeurent sécuritaires pour toutes et tous.
